Barbara Ann Scott

Barbara Ann ScottMiss Scott also received a gift from her hometown, a yellow convertible with a licence that read “47 U 1”. She was forced to return this present due to Olympic Committee regulations prohibiting participants from accepting gifts or making profits from their athletic talents.

The next year she won the Canadian, North American, European, and World championships, in addition to a gold medal at the 1948 Olympics.

Upon her return she also found that her yellow convertible had been put on display at a local car dealership by Mayor Stanley Lewis, waiting to be reclaimed with a new licence plate that read “48 U 1.”

The years 1947 to 1950 saw a high rise in baby girls named Barbara Ann, no doubt in tribute to the “queen of the blades.”
