First long-distance radio broadcast

This broadcast experiment was conducted under the flag of the Royal Society of Canada with Doctor A.S. Eve lecturing on the principles of radio broadcast. They established a wireless broadcasting receiver, OA, at the Chateau Laurier and a similar device was erected at McGill University in Montreal. In turn, a special concert was organized at the top offices of the Marconi building on William Street in Montreal with Miss Lutton as the main soloist. After his lecture, Dr. Eve removed his headpiece and switched on the loudspeaker. To everyone’s surprise, Miss Lutton’s voice rang over the airwaves. Dr. Eve finally switched to “transmit” and talked to Montreal, thus concluding the first radio broadcast from Ottawa (Haig, 182).
