Carillon

Prime Minister King installed the Carillon or musical chimes to commemorate the peace of 1918 and honour Canadians killed in the Great War. The 53 bells hang in two belfries of the Victory Memorial Tower between the Memorial Chamber of the big clock. These bells were cast and tuned in the foundry of Gillett and Johnston in England. The largest weighs 22,400 pounds and is pitched to the note E; the smallest weighs 10 pounds and is pitched to the note A. The Ottawa Carillon is one of the largest of the* 113 installed all over North America (Haig, 187).
