The Annie & Amelia
McLeod Campaign
The
Bytown Museum is committed to providing you a place to explore
the stories of an evolving city. Within the walls of the
historic Commissariat building, the Bytown Museum presents
exhibitions and programs that connect us to the people and
stories that shaped Ottawa.
One of those artefacts
that connect us is a double portrait painting of sisters Annie
and Amelia McLeod, created by Moses Pierce, an itinerant painter
from the mid-19th century.
The portrait of Annie and
Amelia reveals much about its subject and the McLeod family.
However, the Bytown Museum believes that there is still much to
be learned about these two interesting sisters. What was their
connection to Ottawa? Who was the McLeod family? While the
artistic quality of Annie and Amelia McLeod is extraordinary,
its poor condition means that it cannot be shown without
extensive conservation work. You can help today! As a supporter
of the Bytown Museum, we hope you agree that the stories our
artefacts can reveal, such as the story of the McLeod family,
are important and should be shared.

Help the Bytown
Museum tell the story about this artefact by making
a contribution toward its conservation. Your tax-deductible
donation, however large or small, will be put to work
directly toward this special project. We welcome your
contribution to complete this important work. You can read
more about Annie and Amelia in the Spring edition of our
newsletter, The Bytown News,
available
here.

Please make a generous donation today.
Your support of this project will add greatly to the work
that the Bytown Museum does in telling the stories of the
people who shaped Ottawa. This is your opportunity to play a
direct role, like the members of the Women’s Canadian
Historical Society of Ottawa once did, in exploring the
stories of an evolving city!
